Investigators present: Jay, Tom, X
Visit length: 1hour 30minutes
People contact us because they have unusual things happening in their homes. We were asked to investigate this Douglasdale home because the owners have had lights turn on and off by themselves, heard tapping noises in the master bath and their children have seen shadows on the wall in the basement (when there is no one around to cast them). Needless to say they were concerned.
We arrived at 21:40. This two-story house was fairly new and well kept. We were invited in and given the gist of what was happening by the owners. We quickly went through our questionnaire then proceeded to conduct our investigation. Jay began in the basement with X while one of the owners followed Tom who started on the top floor.
Tom video-documented the entire home, focusing on each of the locations where activity had taken place. Reviewing the tape later revealed nothing paranormal. While videotaping, the owner told Tom that she had done some research about the history of the neighborhood and area. According to people she talked with, there had been a paint factory across 24th Street where an explosion occurred in the mid-70's. This explosion had killed several workers. The owner thought that this might be the cause of the activity in her house. Through our subsequent research, we could find no evidence of a paint factory in that location or any reported explosion in any business near the area.
Meanwhile, X had left the basement and was on the main floor. Tom and the owner met her in the kitchen where X asked the owner to talk. Tom went into the basement and met with Jay who was sitting on one of the couches. Jay expressed some of his insight and Tom relayed the information provided by the owner. Jay turned off the light because he felt that this would help him focus on any entity in the house. As they sat in the dark, Tom and Jay felt a presence. Jay was able to see a persons face while Tom could only see what it was wearing.
Back on the main floor, the team discussed their findings. The entity that was felt by everyone did not seem to fit the profile of a displaced spirit from a tragic event. We immediately ruled out any worker killed in the factory explosion. This was a great relief to the female owner. But who was it that Jay and Tom had seen? They described in detail the entity who was in the home. It is not a negative presence but a protective one. The other owner said the 'person' Jay and Tom were describing sounded exactly like his father. He searched for a short while, then produced a picture of his deceased parent. This was the person that Tom and Jay had seen clearly. The family was not being haunted, they were being told that everything was all right. Perhaps this parent was there to give the family a feeling of security.
Although we were unable to document any activity with our equipment, we left Douglasdale with a feeling of accomplishment. This investigation showed Jay and Tom that their intuition/sixth sense is growing with each investigation. They are beginning to have a deeper non-tangible insight into paranormal activity. The next step is to reconcile our intuition with any empirical data collected.
