Investigators present: Matt, Jeremy, Tom

Length of visit: 2hours

We arrived at this newly built home early in the afternoon. The homeowner had contacted us with several stories about goings on in her new home, things that had never happened before moving to this location. She had originally posted some of these accounts on our message board, the CAPI Forum. She was encouraged by other contributors to contact us.

We began our investigation by going over our extensive residential questionnaire that delves into many personal areas of our client's life. This questionnaire helps us determine what may be going on and to eliminate various non-paranormal possibilities while keeping everything told to us confidential. The only things shared with the public are those relevant to paranormal events as per our Release of Information agreement.

We found that this home, while less than two years old, had numerous possible paranormal events that needed explanation. They began shortly after the homeowners moved in, with most seemingly centred on the two year old daughter. The homeowner also felt that the main floor half-bathroom was a centre of possible activity. This half-bath had trouble staying warm and felt sort of off to the homeowner. One night, the homeowner decided to set up her nightshot video camera facing this bathroom. She showed us the tape stating that the 'anomaly' blurring the picture could be a spirit.

Our feedback was quite different. We believe that the blurring was caused either by light play in the hallway, a bad tape or a combination of both. To understand more fully, picture this house - it is very well lit, especially in the front hallway/stairway. The front door faces South with large uncovered windows in the two story atrium above the front door. Add to this a large window in the bathroom itself and a window in the back door (facing West) which is located next to the bathroom in question. All of these factors could contribute to false positive readings and misinterpretations of non-paranormal events.

Jungle Jane had talked with the homeowner on the phone and felt that whatever the presence was, it was not harmful or something to be scared of. JJ felt that it was the spirit of someone who may have died near the house and was a protecting force. This did not completely calm the homeowner as she had most recently experienced a potentially dangerous and frightening event involving three knives (two steak and one paring). The homeowner runs a day home and has a few children including her own in the house. She had just arrived on the second floor to put laundry away when she heard three distinct and very loud thuds on the main floor. She rushed down to see if one of the children had knocked something over, hoping that no one was hurt. The children were quietly playing in the living room (where they had been when she had gone upstairs less than a minute before) and when asked, told her that they had not heard or done anything. She went into the kitchen and saw the three knives lined up in a neat row on the floor and pointing to the West. She quickly picked them up so the children would not be hurt and started to think about what she should do. To have found these knives on the floor, with no visible markings on the wooden floor surface (which one would expect if knives had fallen off the counter) after the knives had been placed by her behind the kitchen sink to await washing, scared the homeowner badly. In our interview, Tom asked "why behind the sink" and she answered that she wanted them to be completely inaccessible to the children so they could not be hurt.

The team separated, each taking a different floor to record any anomalies along with general documentation. After about 15 minutes, the team regrouped on the main floor to discuss initial findings. While talking, the monitor/music box in the child's bedroom began to play. The homeowner believed that it had gone on by itself because she had noticed this happening before and was convinced the power had been off to the unit. Upon closer examination of our notes, it turned out that the power had been on but the unit was not activated. That the unit activated by itself is unusual. This is the only possible paranormal event we recorded at the location. We continued the investigation by going as a group through the home again. We found nothing unusual.

Our conclusion is that there is no paranormal activity at this location at this time. We believe that the monitor/music box might be faulty creating the illusion that an unseen external force is turning it on and off. It should be replaced for safety. The events described by the homeowner are possibly paranormal in nature. However, without corroborating documentation, we have to say that they are merely anecdotal evidence. We have not been subsequently contacted with any new information or reports of activity from the homeowner. Jane believes that whatever was 'haunting' the home is no longer trying to get someone's attention and has moved on. We hope that the homeowners experience no other paranormal activity in this house.
