Investigators present: Nikki, Ryan, Tom
Length of visit: 3hours 40minutes
The team arrived at 18:50. We were all excited about investigating this location because of the stories related by our client. Since moving into their home over 7 years ago, the homeowners have experienced a near overwhelming amount of paranormal activity. They had never encountered anything paranormal before living in this home. Initially unsure if they should contact us, the homeowners finally decided they needed this phenomenon documented and sent us an email outlining their situation.
Some of the stories related to us via initial contact and during our on-site interview:
- During the move-in, while unpacking boxes in the kitchen, the female homeowner heard what sounded like a child running in the hallway. She was alone in the home and they did not have children yet.
- Shortly after their first child was born, a strange thing happened. A kitchen drawer used for plastic container storage had an overnight addition - the contents of a 14kg dog food bag. The homeowners went to bed the night before, heard nothing during the night, and found the drawer full the next morning. At first, they thought it might be mice but decided mice could not have moved all this food overnight.
- Another time the homeowners started to notice their couch becoming "lumpy and uncomfortable". Upon closer inspection, it also had a crunchy sound. The male homeowner took the back off the couch and found it full of dog food. How the dog food got into the back of the couch, filling it almost to the top, was completely unknown to the homeowners.
- After a relative, whom the oldest child had not met, passed away, the microwave began displaying unusual things. The number pad would be pressed (with no one near the microwave) making the "beep, beep" sound, then displaying "HIGH 55:55". The child said it was the relative who recently passed and described what the relative looked like.
- Occasionally, the female homeowner smells "an old man...you know that distinctive smell an older man has - cologne, pipe smoke - that sort of thing". When she encounters this smell, it is not confined to one room or area but permeates the entire home. It usually goes away after a short time.
- Various children's toys will begin to "play" by themselves - even those not battery powered. For example, a toy xylophone began playing with no one near it. Another time, the male homeowner heard a toy stethoscope (battery powered) begin to make a heartbeat sound. This incident happened shortly after the passing of his father to a heart ailment.
- A t-shirt the homeowners bought during a trip and hung in a closet, went missing for several months before turning up back in the closet a few days before our visit.
- A pair of new oven mitts, placed in a kitchen drawer, went missing minutes after putting them away. They were gone for several months before showing up in the drawer.
The team found that the oldest child's bedroom and the master bedroom (located on the south end of the home) were the centre of activity. In the master bedroom, the team captured several orbs and noticed an unusual electromagnetic anomaly on an outer wall. This EM anomaly was in a vertical line that had no wiring along its length. This was also in the area of several orbs.
The oldest child's bedroom had a different energy that seemed to move through each team member. Ryan placed an audio recorder and Tom placed the standing thermometer on the dresser. No audio anomalies were recorded, but during one visit to the room by Tom, he noticed a sudden 1.5 degree drop in temperature. It was the door to this room that, on Father's Day 2006, one of the owners dogs had scratched maniacally.
The homeowners were out enjoying the day and came home to find the mirror that hung on the door shattered in the hallway. They also found small pools of blood on the floor below the door and inside the room on the carpet (the door was still closed). On the outside doorframe, several claw marks showed where the dog had scratched. They check both of their dogs and found no injuries. They could not explain where the blood came from.
While looking at this door, with the homeowners describing what they found, the team had two interesting events happen. First, the hallway light partially went out (two of the three bulbs just turned off). The second - Nikki felt someone touch her shoulder. At first she thought it might be Ryan, who was standing behind her. However, Ryan was almost a metre back and Tom was looking at both of them when this happened. Immediate photos showed nothing.
Both Nikki and Tom felt that there was more than one spirit in the home. Tom felt many all at once and could discern only one - a female. Nikki had the same experience, but was able to pick three individuals out - a female, an older male and a pre-teen (approximately 11 - 12years old). Ryan felt that he was not able to effectively use his intuition on this investigation and told the other team members this. He was, however, able to capture various anomalies on film.
We estimate that there are more than 4 possible spirits in this home. None have a direct connection to the other and the only commonality is the home. They are mischievous and do not pose any threat to the homeowners at this time.
Initial historical research may provide some answers. The University of Calgary has records describing several archaeological sites in the Calgary area. At the time of this writing, CAPI was able to find references to native ritual locations along the western edge of the city. One such location is within three kilometres of our client's home. Nikki remembers stumbling across an archaeological dig near our client's home (a few years before our client moved in) where she noticed, what seemed to be, ancient buried remains. These may be the same archaeological sites.
We thank our clients for allowing the CAPI team to enter their home and conduct our research. We will return to this location in the next few weeks to continue our research.
